Obesity And Fitness - Fat Versus Muscles

Obesity is a condition that affects many people these days and in translation it means that the body has too much fat.

In order to analyze it in detail a study was developed on twenty-five football players. Every single one of them was measured and weight and the numbers were compared with the Selective Service standards, which are known to be very generous.

The result was unbelievable.

No less than seventeen jocks were rejected and declared as unfit. You’ll probably ask how this could be possible. Well, they weren’t over fat but they were over muscled.

If you follow the life insurance height-and-weight charts to analyze your weight it’s simply wrong and the study presented above supports this theory. Age is a very important factor in this equation because a fifty years old person cannot have the weight of a young person.

Although the number is the same, fat doesn’t equal muscle.

The weight compared to the heights is not that important as you may think.

Many people all the time worry about being too fat but not a single one of them will have this problem if muscles were the issue. There’s no downside here because everybody loves muscles.

The most effective method to Determine Whether You Are over Weight

In order to be diagnosed with obesity you will have to check the fat level in your body. He can do that in three different ways.

The first method involves the person’s visual perspicacity. Remove your dress and watch yourself in the mirror. If you’re fat you know it and you need no doctor to confirm it.

No overweight person will step into a doctor’s office to find out if his a fat or not. He already knows the answer to this inquiry. They visit the doctor in order to find out how much weight can they lose.

The persons that ignore the change in clothes measurements or in belt are very insensitive. The belt notches are maybe the best index for the ideal weight.

A second method to diagnose the obesity is the “pinch” or “skin-fold” test that will measure how much fat there is between the skin and the muscles.

Fat is the most important barometer of obesity. This test is very simple. Just grasp some skin between forefinger and thumb. Between your fingers you’ll have skin and fat. You cannot pinch the muscles.

You can check the fat on your upper arm, abdomen, upper chest, calf and buttocks. If between your fingers you have more than one-half inch of fat then this is too much. This is considered to be a very accurate method to determine your ideal weight.

The third method is the one of specific gravity. Under water a fat person will tend to rise to the surface and that happens because the fat is much lighter than water. Just like the oil in a glass of water. On the other hand muscles tend to sink because they are heavier than water.

Take the example of Mr. S that on the bathroom scale weighs 202 pounds. That couldn’t be possible because he had an impressive abdomen.

What was amazing was that under water Mr. S weight only 9 pounds.

Seeing all that the man decided to lose some weight. He started to work out and followed a strict diet. Months have passed and when he stepped up to the bathroom scale once again the result was satisfactory: 186 pounds.

Under water he was now weighting 12 pounds. This means that he managed to change fat for muscles and that’s great especially for his health.
